FAQ

  • What is the JSA?
The Jewish Student Association (JSA) is the formal name for the greater Jewish Community at WashU (otherwise known as WashJew). In the Fall of 2021, we became an official Student Union (SU) recognized club -- helping us organize and sponsor the same Jewish community events that we have had over the last few years.
  • What is the JSA board and what does it do?
The JSA Board is a collection of students who were elected by members of the Jewish Student Association to be point people for different aspects of the community. The goal of the board is to highlight representative people to help individuals plan events whenever they have ideas for something that will help foster our Jewish community. Although most events should be created by individuals with the help of the board, members of the board are responsible for planning weekly kiddushes, jarties, and melava malkas, as well as several tisches/fabrengens and other celebrations over the course of the semester. In other words, the board will help plan the foundational components of the Jewish community, but the goal of the board is to aid individuals as they create their own events. In addition to event planning, the board focuses on big picture items like inclusivity, outreach and fundraising with the goal of creating a vibrant Jewish community on campus.
  • If there’s already a board in place, do I need to do anything?
Yes! We need people to plan events other than jarties and kiddushes, and to enhance any of the basic functions that the board is responsible for by adding themes, setting up, etc.
  • How can I get involved and contribute to our community?
Come up with ideas that will further the community! Whether it’s student-led shiurim (@Aaron Ocken), planning a football watch party (@Sarah Tenner) or organizing a ping pong tournament (@Micah Gentin) there are many ways to contribute! Join one of the many committees underneath each respective chair! Provide feedback by using the feedback form pinned to #general in Slack Ask a member of the JSA board if there’s anything else you can plan!
  • Who do I speak to about sponsoring a jarty, Kiddush or another event?
You can either donate directly through our donation form or contact Avi Solomons or Yosef Weiss for more information.
  • Who are the members of the board and what can they help me with?
    Check out the About page
  • How do I access board meeting minutes?
Check the Meeting Minutes and Notes folder in the JSA google drive here!
